Another splashing start to the week for some St Patrick's students who represented our school at the Southern Region Swimming Carnival in Narooma on Monday. Congratulations to all representatives. We are so proud of the whole team and also celebrate individual successes. Well done Henry on being joint age champion! Please read the Sport news for more information.
On Tuesday we enjoyed another visit from our COGlearn coach Andrew Pirie who is working with our teaching staff to continue their journey of improvement in implementing High Impact Teaching Strategies in their teaching. Andrew did some modelling of signalling and error correction.
FROM THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL & CLASSROOM SUPPORT
Direct Instruction classes
At St Patrick’s, we use an evidence-based direct instruction approach in our teaching and learning. The programs currently used within our school that follow this pedagogy include ‘Connecting Maths Concepts’ (CMC), ‘Reading Mastery’ (RM) and ‘Spelling Mastery’ (SM). These programs are designed to explicitly teach skills and content, based on an individual student's level at which they are learning.
Great care is taken throughout the program to ensure that each student is placed at the correct level and achieving mastery of skills. Early in the term, we are continually monitoring and communicating with teachers to ensure that students are in the correct class and level for their development. This ongoing process may mean that there are changes to your child’s group. It is expected that students will maintain a score of 100% in each of the assessments to demonstrate mastery at that level. In some cases, students may be placed in the same level that they have previously completed. This means that they have not yet achieved mastery at this level and will continue to develop their skills until mastery is achieved. The programs have been designed to have a lot of repetition to embed the concepts that are being taught. This is an essential component of learning, that ensures there are no content gaps before students move to the next level.
This Week, Week 4, some students will be moving class for English and / or Mathematics based on the data, assessment and teacher feedback. This is to ensure every child is accessing the curriculum at their level.

On Monday twenty-three St Pat's kids travelled to Narooma to compete at the Southern Region swimming carnival. There were plenty of nerves but everyone tried their hardest, and our kids were a credit to their school for their attitude and participation all day. Thanks to the parents and grandparents for transporting our students and being a wonderful cheer squad. A big thanks to Ian Gowing who spent all day time-keeping.
9 St Pat’s students are going on to the Archdiocesan Carnival in Boorowa. Congratulations to our Senior girls relay team of Charlotte, Alice, Isabella and Arly who won this event in Narooma. Our Junior boys and girls teams both came third, but only two teams move forward. Our individual swimmers are: Austin, Tilly, Ava, Mia, Arly, Isabella and Henry.
A special commendation for Henry as he won every event he participated in, and was awarded equal junior boy champion!
Well done to all those children who represented St Pat's at Narooma.
The next representative team sport is football (soccer). This trial will be held in Lyneham, Canberra on Tuesday 9th April, cost $15. As usual, this is open to children in Year 5 and 6 who have played soccer at a local representative level. If you are interested in your child attending please contact the school to see if your child meets the requirements needed to participate.
