Dear Parents and Carers
We began the week with a SPLASH! Thanks to all the parent helpers who made our school swimming carnival a great success. Thanks to Mrs Harnett and our school staff. Thanks to our great St Pat's kids for 'giving it a go' in the pool. It was great to see the new sport house captains showing their leadership skills.
Congratulations to our Age Champions:
The winning house was Tenison.
We took time to thank Zoe and Mark for so many wonderful years of carnivals and swimming lessons / swimming intensives for St Patrick's school.
LENT
On Wednesday we began the season of Lent with our Ash Wednesday Mass. Lent is an important time for Christians as we prepare ourselves for Easter.
2024 Goals
Last week I wrote about the programs we have in place in support of Bold Goal 1.
To achieve our system Bold Goal 2 we have a school wide approach to knowing, understanding and enacting high impact teaching practices (HITPs) in every classroom.
What are the HITP's?
* Teachers engage in regular professional reading & learning.
* Teachers write and implement daily and weekly review, question students and check for their understanding.
* Teachers provide explicit instruction of content, expecting high success rate and providing supports and reteaching where necessary.
* Teachers model and scaffold learning.
* An external coach visits in support of improving teaching practice.
Blessings

School Rules
For the first two weeks of Term, K-6 stduents have been learning about what it means to be a St Pat's Kid. This week I visited classrooms to see the three school rules in action.
Our Values
Principles are the centre of who we are. They are our personal ‘rock’ that Jesus pointed out to the Apostles when he said to St Peter “Upon this rock I will build my Church”. From our Principles we form our values. They are the ‘guide posts’ for our life’s journey. At St Patrick’s our Values underpin who we are as members of God’s Church and as citizens of our local and global community.
At St Patrick’s our values are:

Shrove Tuesday
Shrove Tuesday is the last day before Ash Wednesday and the start of the fasting Lenten season leading up to Easter. Students in 3/4 and 5/6 classes spent time on Tuesday learning about the history of Shrove Tuesday and the reasons that it is a significant day for Christians. They then finished their learning by making delicious pancakes!
Ash Wednesday
On Wednesday, students attended Mass for Ash Wednesday. It was lovely to be together in the church as a whole school, to each receive the ashes on our foreheads and mark the beginning of Lent.
Some simple Lent activities that you may like to engage in at home include;
- Praying together
- Giving up something as a family during the Lenten season
- Make a Lenten Cross, with candles to light at the dinner table during Lent
- Read the Bible together
- Participate in 40 acts of kindness over 40 days
