Dear Parents and Carers,
What an interesting week at St Patrick's with the changing demography of our student population each day!
On Wednesday our seniors left for camp and reduced our school population considerably, on the same day Year 1/2 went on their excursion
... so what a wonderfully happy play the Kinders had with their Year 3/4 friends on the flats at recess!
On Thursday with the seniors still enjoying their Canberra excursion, and the Year 3/4's out all day at their AFL gala, the juniors had fun exploring play time 'where the big kids play.' See Mrs Grant's item for more information...
And today, Friday the K-4's enjoyed time together. We are looking forward to hearing the good news about camp learning and fun next week.
SLEEP After such a busy week it is important that all children get some good sleep over the weekend. Sleep recommendations according to health authorities in Australia are:
- Preschoolers (3-5 years): 10-13 hours per day
- School-age children (6-13 years): 9-11 hours per day
- Teenagers (14-17 years): 8-10 hours per day
These recommendations are based on ensuring optimal health and well-being.
Did you know that poor sleep can lead to
-
a child's inability to learn, focus, and retain information
-
irritability, mood swings, and emotional dysregulation
-
hyperactivity, impulsiveness, and behavioural problems
-
a weakened immune system, making children more susceptible to illnesses
and, importantly sleep is crucial for the production of growth hormones and overall physical development. Lack of sleep can hinder a child's growth and development.
Blessings
Jo

Exploring Ecosystems: A 1/2 Science Adventure
This week, our enthusiastic Year 1/2 classes embarked on an exciting walking excursion to explore local ecosystems. The students were thrilled to be joined by guest speaker Erin Moon, who guided them through the fascinating world of biology, right in our own backyard.
During the excursion, students had the opportunity to catch tadpoles and observe various plants and animals in their natural habitats. Erin Moon shared her extensive knowledge about the importance of ecosystems and the roles different organisms play within them. The hands-on experience allowed students to connect classroom learning with real-world observations, sparking curiosity and a deeper understanding of the natural world.
The excursion was not only educational but also a lot of fun. The students returned to school with newfound knowledge and a greater appreciation for the environment around them. This memorable experience has certainly inspired our young scientists to continue exploring and learning about the wonders of biology.
Stay tuned for more exciting updates from our Year 1/2 classes as they continue their scientific adventures!

Exciting 5/6 Excursion to Canberra!
This week, our enthusiastic Year 5/6 students embarked on an unforgettable three-day, two-night excursion to Canberra, packed with educational and fun-filled activities.
Day 1 kicked off with a visit to Parliament House, where students explored the grand halls and learned about the intricacies of the voting process. They also paid their respects at ANZAC Parade, reflecting on the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women.
On Day 2, the adventure began at Questacon, the National Science and Technology Centre. The interactive exhibits and hands-on activities sparked curiosity and excitement among the students. They then visited the Australian Museum, where they marvelled at the diverse exhibits showcasing Australia's rich history and natural heritage. The day concluded with a visit to the Australian Institute of Sport, where they got a glimpse into the lives of elite athletes and even tried out some sports activities themselves.
Day 3 was equally thrilling with a trip to the Deep Space Communication Complex. Here, students learned about space exploration and the role Australia plays in tracking spacecraft. The fascinating exhibits and real-time data from space missions captivated their imaginations.

Congratulations to Austin, Mia and Ava who swam in Sydney on Wednesday. They all swam beautifully with each one recording PB's. Henry was to swim as well but an unfortunate incident left him on crutches.
This coming Tuesday we will run our school cross country. Once again, the showground is out of bounds so we will start and finish this year in the school grounds. This is a carnival for Year 3-6 students. As this is part of the school curriculum it is expected that all children will participate. Those who find it difficult to run are invited to walk. If your child is unable to compete, they will need a note stating why.
Asthmatics will need to carry their puffers. Hats, drink bottles and sunscreen will be necessary.
On Thursday the Junior primary children will have their fun run which will be fully within the school grounds on the bottom flats. The starting time for both days will be 9.30am. Parents are welcome to come and support their children.
FROM THE STUDENT COMMUNICATIONS LEADER
The 5/6G class has been learning about significant stories in the bible. They were assigned one biblical story as a group to perform, and the two girls Lhyanne and Mia D interviewed, spoke about the story they dramatised, Jonah and the Whale. The story is that God came from above and talked to Johah. Jonah ignored the message, then God sent this great storm Jonah’s way, he got knocked overboard and was swallowed by a whale. After some time, Jonah started praying to God asking for his forgiveness. He prays every day until the whale spits him out. After he gets spat out Jonah goes straight to Nineveh to share God's word.
In other news, in Science 5/6G have been learning about the life cycle of plants. They are finding this learning really interesting as they grow new understandings about life cycles.
