Dear Parents and Carers,
Congratulations to all St Pat's Year 3-6 students who nominated for the school based Public Speaking finals this week. These students are vying for selection to represent our school at the Southern Region event coming soon. Mrs Grant, Mrs Ferris and I were delighted to see so many nominees, and we were impressed by the children's preparation and presentation. Adjudication was difficult with so many high performers!
Congratulations to our St Pat's Public Speaking Team
Dance Concert We are amidst the fun and busy time of polishing the performances for our dance concert next week. It has been made a little more challenging for our teachers this year with many children being unwell on any given day. We know that despite the challenges, our St Pat's kids will relish the opportunity to shine on stage.
Importantly, have you booked your tickets? Do so NOW!
Thursday 12pm session: https://www.trybooking.com/CBXTH

Any tickets still available after 5pm today will be opened for families to make further bookings.
We thank the Community Council Fundraising Committee for organising some delicious dinner for everyone to purchase on concert night, giving everyone more time to get their children ready to perform!
Please support the Fundraising Committee and give dad a new kind of gift for Father's Day. A challenge to all dad's to keep the contents of their Grazing Box all to themselves!
Archdiocesan Athletics We are SO proud of our students who represented the southern region at the athletics carnival on Tuesday: Arly, Achie S, Claire, Mia G, Aidan G, Connor E, Jacob E, Charlie I-B, Ally, Drew, Abbey, Ruben, Eva and Sienna J. They battled freezing, wet and windy Canberra conditions to compete. Mrs Harnett's news shares more about St Pat's kids success!
Cyber safety Have you booked your place in our upcoming parent session from ySafe, Tuesday 6th September 6-7.00pm? This will be one of the most important parent sessions you attend this year. Parents who attended a ySafe cybersafety talk at St Pat's (prior to Covid times) recommend this learning for all parents who are trying to navigate screen time with their children. Did you know students at St Pat’s have been learning about the different between the Old Testament and the New Testament!?
What is the Old Testament?
The first part of the Christian Bible that tells about the Jews, their history, and God's words to them in the time before Jesus Christ was born.
What is the New Testament?
A record of the life, teachings, and mission of Jesus Christ and the ministry of His disciples in promoting the spread of the early Christian Church.
Take a look at these wonderful examples of their learning!
Thank you to families who have paid their Term 3 fees.
Term 3 fees are due 7 September 2022, except those with direct debit arrangements.
If at any time your family is experiencing financial hardship due to Covid-19 or any other reason or your family is in need of other support, please contact the school to make a time for a confidential meeting with our Principal, Jo Scott-Pegum to discuss how the school can help support your family.
Tuesday was probably one of Canberra's coldest days this year but a large number of athletes braved the elements. Students in the throwing events couldn't feel their hands. the high and long jumpers were landing on wet things! Runners wearing thin wet tops splashed through the puddles! But at the end of the day St Pat's kids did very well. Out of the 14 St Pat's Bega kids attending 9 of them have been selected in the Archdiocesan team to compete at the MacKillop Trials in Sydney on the 21st September. As well as having the second largest contingent selected from all schools participating, we managed to also gain a new record and an age champion.
Only first and second place getters are selected at this level to move to the next level. Of note, one student was nearly in the team, Drew Duncan, gained a 3rd in the shot put.
Our students going to Sydney are Claire Breust - High Jump and Discus; Abbey Collins - discus; Eva Ridley - shot put; Aidan Green - 100m, relay; Archie Sly - long jump, relay; Connor Elliott - shot put; Jacob Elliott - relay; Charlie Ingram-Bates - relay; Arly Schrader - 1500m, 200m, long jump and high jump.
The Junior boys relay won their event by more than one second and now hold the record. The boys were overjoyed with this effort as they convincingly beat Bateman's Bay who were the winners at our zone carnival. The extra practice these boys have put in recently has definitely made the difference.
Arly Schrader was named Junior girl champion, this is a huge effort considering the number of children competing and the large area our archdiocese covers.
The weather conditions on the day meant that most of the children threw, jumped or ran times and distances much less than their personal bests, so we hope the weather in Sydney is much better. I'm predicting if it is great weather, our kids will achieve even better results.
Mrs Grainger has an announcement regarding the names of our chickens. After running a funky chicken colouring competition the winners are:
Belle from 5/6R
Sophie from 5/6G
Skylah from 3/4R
Sienna from 2/3Y and
Thea C from 1/2 R
Judging was very tough given the variety of great names and designs entered.
Our hens are now named Patches, Hennifer, Kitty, Rocky and Winter.

Game Face is an original performance event made with our young companies YFLING and FLUX Creators.
Game Face explores game structures and spaces of play, magnifying strategy and our drive for competition. Using the supportive structures of game play our performers examine decision making, vulnerability and how we connect with other people.
Come and step into the play arena together and be reminded of how great play is for our bodies and minds!
This is a family show where you are invited to be daring, playful and bring your game face!
