FROM THE REC AND SUPPORT TEACHER
Lent
St Pat's students have been focusing on Lent in Religious Education.
Fasting during Lent
During Lent, people are encouraged to fast. Fasting is the wilful refrainment from eating and sometimes drinking. The purpose of fasting is to make reparation for any wrongdoing but also to draw our attention to God, from whom all good things come. As well as food and drink, people can fast from certain activities such as watching TV or gaming.
Reflect on something that you can fast from during Lent. You may choose to do this for the whole six weeks of Lent or intermittently.
Ways to Pray - The Confiteor
The Confiteor is one of the prayers that can be said during the Penitential Act at the beginning of the Mass. It is also used in the Lutheran Church at the beginning of Divine Service and by some in the Anglican Church. It is an opportunity to seek God’s forgiveness for past sins. Lent is a time when we are asked to reflect on our behaviour and ask God’s forgiveness.
Let us Pray
I confess to almighty God
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned
in my thoughts and in my words,
in what I have done
and in what I have failed to do,
[All strike their breast three times]
through my fault, through my fault,
through my most grievous fault;
therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,
all the Angels and Saints,
and you, my brothers and sisters,
to pray for me to the Lord our God.
