FROM THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
LITERACY IN K-2
This week I visited Kindergarten to observe their writing. Goals for students were; writing from left to right, moving down the page, using finger spacing and having a go at listening and writing the sound they hear in words. Wow! How wonderful to see the progress the students are making.
Students in K-2 continue to make sound progress through the InitiaLit program. Teachers are regularly tracking student progress and refining their teaching to ensure we are meeting the needs of every student. Today when visiting Mrs Franco's class students were listening for the 'ee' sound in words and filling out the sound boxes to match.
YEAR 1/2 FOCUS; TIPTOE THROUGH OUR WORLD
SUSTAINABILITY; REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE
We all need to take responsibility to look after our environment so that it is preserved for future generations.
- How to sustain our environment by reducing, reusing and recycling.
- How long things take to decompose.
- The ethics of sustainability
ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS
- How can we leave a tiny footprint on the environment?
- Do we know what we can reuse, reduce and recycle?
- How can we set goals and influence others to look after our environment?
Students in 1/2B have been focusing on building a sustainable future. Over the last few weeks they have been trying to bring food to school that is plastic free. While visiting the classroom earlier this week I noticed some lunchboxes reflecting this.
