FROM THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
NAPLAN
Students in Years 3, and 5 participate in NAPLAN tests for reading, writing, conventions of language and numeracy during May. Our school will participate in NAPLAN Practice Tests in Weeks 9 and 10, which are designed to give students, teachers and systems an opportunity to practice administering and participating in the online testing environment. The practice tests consist of a Writing Test for Years 5, and an Omnibus Test (a combination of reading, conventions of language and numeracy) for Years 3 and 5, As this is intended to practice participation, the questions are not equivalent to NAPLAN testing in May, and no results are available from the Practice Tests.
Teaching Mathematics at St Patrick’s.
We use the MAKE, SAY, WRITE, DO pedagogical approach. We teach Mathematics for one hour every day of the week. We have the learning in the hands of the learner. We ask students to record their Mathematical thinking and learning.
Today students in 1/2B Aiden Hale and Liam Campbell were able to demonstrate mathematical patterns using the date. They discovered today’s date 18/3/21 could be converted to an addition sum; 18+3=21. Through the use of beads, cross checking and writing on whiteboards, (Make, Say, Write and Do) they were able to explain their thinking as well as look for further patterns with the date.
REMINDER; Bookings for Term 1 Student-Parent-Teacher learning conferences will close Saturday 20th March at 5pm.
