Week 3: Feeling Good to Learn Well

Student wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. This week, we’re focusing on emotional regulation and mindfulness to help students manage their feelings and stay ready to learn. Using tools like the Zones of Regulation, students are learning to identify their emotions and choose strategies to return to a calm, focused state. Daily check-ins and mindfulness activities in The Resilience Project are helping students build resilience and self-awareness. A calm mind supports a curious and engaged learner.

Parent Tip: Use the Zones of Regulation at home to help your child name their feelings and choose helpful actions.

St Patrick’s Bega: Committed to Child Safety

At St Patrick’s Primary School, Bega, the safety and wellbeing of our students is at the heart of everything we do. We are proud to be actively implementing the Child Safe Standards, a framework designed to ensure that children and young people are protected, respected, and empowered within our school community.

These ten standards guide our practices—from leadership and governance to staff training, inclusive policies, and safe physical and online environments. We believe that child safety is a shared responsibility, and we are committed to working closely with families, carers, and the wider community to uphold these principles.

Our approach ensures that:

  • Children are informed of their rights and involved in decisions that affect them.
  • Staff and volunteers are equipped with the skills and knowledge to keep children safe.
  • Complaints and concerns are handled with a child-focused lens.
  • Our policies and procedures reflect a culture of safety, equity, and continuous improvement.

Together, we create a school environment where every child feels safe, valued, and supported.

Important Message for Parents: Drop-Off Safety Reminder

We’ve recently received concerns from members of our school community regarding unsafe practices during morning drop-off at the Belmore Street entrance.

Each day, we’ve observed cars double parking in this area, often to avoid a short walk. While we understand mornings can be busy, this behaviour significantly increases the risk of accidents, especially with children crossing between parked cars or vehicles turning the corner.

To ensure the safety of all students, we are making a change to our drop-off procedures:

1. Starting next week, all student drop-offs must occur at the Gipp Street Gate.

2. The Belmore Street Gate will be closed during morning drop-off times.

We kindly ask all families to use the available parking along Gipp Street and walk their children to the gate if needed. Your cooperation will help us keep our students safe and our school community respectful and responsible.
