Last Monday it was hot here in Bega, and it was just as hot in Sydney for our St Pat's athletes who were competing for Canberra Goulburn at The MacKillop Trials. The representation area for this competition encompasses all Catholic Schools south of the Harbour Bridge, coastal and inland NSW. Place getters at this level go on to Nationals.
Some of our city cousins have personal coaches and state of the art facilities for training, resources that don't compare in the regions. The carnival was televised and some of the classes got to watch different events during the day. Our St Pat's kids did extremely well, and it's a credit to them to make it to this high level!
Despite the heat, our students all tried their hardest. The two best results on the day were Archie and Arly both in the long jump. Both jumped PB's (personal best) and came 4th, missing out on the bronze medal by 2cm. Thanks to the parents who supported their kids, it's a big commitment.
Four trials happen very early in the new year so the past couple of years trials to select our Canberra Goulburn sides have been conducted the previous year. These sports are Cricket, Touch Football, Tennis and Basket Ball. As this is for 2024 students need to be in Yr4 or 5 this year.
There is a criteria that needs to be met before registration. If your child plays one of these sports at a representative level contact the school for further information.
